FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bareboat Champs Team Goldendog The Garfield Fun Cat added as New Chase Boat and Official Spectator Boat! MILFORD, CT USA/ PHILIPSBURG ST. MAARTEN, NA - 12 January, 2007 – Team Goldendog, a US based sailing team with strong ties to the island of St. Maarten, NA/St. Martin, FWI, today announced they will compete in this years 27th annual Heineken Regatta held on St. Maarten, NA/St. Martin, FWI and its surrounding waters March 2 – 4, 2007. Unlike most sailing organizations, Team Goldendog sails with a greater cause in mind; “helping homeless animals find their forever homes”. “We are very pleased to be sailing for the benefit of the St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation while representing the Milford Yacht Club. Our crew members have sailed all over the world, especially in the Northeastern United States, and have competed in the past three Heinekens, said Jeffrey W. Sochrin, Chairman of Team Goldendog. “It is our endeavor to be competitive in the Bareboat Division enhancing the sport of sailing, while bringing a heightened awareness to a cause that is very important to us and our sponsors– helping homeless animals find their forever homes. With “serious fun” in mind, we are prepared to defend our 2006 Bareboat 3 class win again this year”, stated Mr. Sochrin. Sochrin continued, “We are excited to announce that Garfield (the Fun Cat) will be joining the Team Goldendog family. Garfield is a 27 foot power catamaran that will serve as the Chase Boat to Team Goldendog and she will also serve as our Official Spectator Boat during the regatta. Garfield can hold 10 passengers per day who will get to enjoy the regatta up close and personal. The net proceeds from the Garfield admission price will go directly to our cause, “helping homeless animals find their forever homes”. In addition, Subway (Cole Bay) of St. Maarten will be providing a great lunch aboard Garfield to each passenger. So, thank you to Bruce and Lorna Hancocks and Kevin of Subway for helping us expand our program again this year”. Mr. Sochrin further stated, “Our continued success at aiding homeless and abandoned animals has allowed the interest in our cause and our program to grow exponentially each year. During 2004, our first year, we had one sponsor, in 2005 we had seven sponsors, in 2006 we had twenty five sponsors and this year I anticipate we will have close to thirty sponsors. We continue to work closely with our founding sponsor, Elisa Cohen of “Bikini Beach”, who enabled us to build this legacy. Her support and encouragement has been invaluable in making what we dream of doing a reality – competing, and making a worthwhile contribution to something we all believe in!” “Team Goldendog will donate all of the net proceeds raised by its participation in this year’s regatta equally between the St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation and the Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue of Hudson, Massachusetts, USA. As the regatta gets closer, look for special events on the island and get involved supporting our cause. If everyone does just one thing to help a cause they believe in, the world will simply be a better place”, concluded Sochrin. 2007 SPONSORS This year Team Goldendog is pleased to include the following sponsors as members of the Team Goldendog family; Bikini Beach Bar, Shiva’s Gold and Gems, Don Camillo, Century 21 Island Realty, East Caribbean Cellular, Docktalk, Garfield Fun Cat, Island 92, Necol Technical Services, Triple A Car Rental, The Gingerbread Café, Diamonds International, Endless Summer, Pineapple Pete’s, Halsey’s Restaurant and Lounge, Subway, Remax Island Properties, Jennifer’s Vacation Villas, Ric’s Place, Taloula Mango’s, Tech Con Caribbean, Jimbo’s Rock and Blues Café, Harrigan Exterminating Services, The Mailbox and Dominos Pizza (St. Maarten).HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED? Sochrin, Chairman and Founder of Team Goldendog. He continued, “this year’s donation is larger than years past and we look forward to supporting the St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation for many years to come. Every year dogs and cats are left abandoned, uncared for and unloved on this beautiful island paradise, however it’s not a paradise for them. Only through the hard work and generous donations of volunteers who open their hearts, homes and wallets can we make a difference. So thanks to Jeff and everyone on Team Goldendog!” Jeff Sochrin continued, “I want to thank all the TGD sponsors, volunteers and members of the Team Goldendog family. Team Goldendog started as a small personal dream and, in three short years, has grown to become an annual event.
